Artist Statement

Born in Pasadena, California, on October 4th, 1944, I grew to young adulthood in the San Gabriel Valley, just east of Los Angeles. I enjoyed a parochial education through high school, where I learned an appreciation for liturgical art and music. During my youth, I played the piano and sang, but never tried drawing or painting beyond childhood dabbling.

Attending college in the 60’s moved me to Claremont, California, where I lived until moving to Portland, Oregon in 1993. While in college, I took an introductory art class, but never went beyond that. Marriage in 1968, followed by the birth of three sons and various jobs filled the next several decades.

In April of 2003, my dearest friend, Gloria Strauss, now deceased, invited me to join her in a painting class for beginners. By the end of the first class, I knew my life would be changing with a newfound passion…Watercolor Painting!

My artistic spirit was just aching to get out. What I enjoy painting most are objects, living things and places in my imagination. I mostly use bright colors and simple shapes. My paintings please me, and my hope is that they please the viewer as well. I am a late bloomer with a brush!
