Artist Statement
My love for art and specifically for painting stems from a deep emotional connection I have with color. With a paintbrush in my hand I can capture a bit of the beauty here in the Northwest and recreate it in a permanent form. With watercolors, I have continued access to nature’s most beautiful colors and can challenge myself to grow in competence and creativity. This truly feeds my spirit.
From an early age I would pick the brightest crayon in the box, the reddest bead, the deepest purple flower, the greenest leaves. As I grew older it was apparent that I had an eye for detail and a curiosity about everything around me. This led me to a career in science as a Medical Microbiologist, where a discerning eye is mandatory and little mysteries are solved every day.
I’ve been involved in creative arts throughout my life, thanks to my very creative mother and her patient instruction in all things crafty. I began painting largely because of my love of gardening and flowers.
I wanted to be able to paint those gorgeous colors, and the light
and shadows that create such a dramatic image. Watercolor is my medium
of choice. It is really a thrill to see what the paint and water will do
on the paper. It is a challenging, yet very satisfying medium and
there will always be more to learn and explore.
My painting education has been greatly helped by wonderful
local watercolorist/teachers, by taking workshops from nationally recognized artists, and participating in local critique groups with other painters.
I have been painting since 2003 and a member of Watercolor Society of Oregon in 2006.
I have exhibited in juried group shows with Beaverton Artist’s Showcase, Watercolor Society of Oregon, Oregon Society of Artists Rose Show and have exhibited in several other group and solo shows.
